To meet the new compliance requirements for trainers and assessors*, effective April 2019 trainers and assessors need to make sure they either:

  • Hold the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment OR
Hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and the two units:

    • TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills and
    • TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools

Read more about the changes here.

*Note: These requirements only apply to those trainers who use the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment as their trainer/assessor credential in accordance with Schedule 1 of the Standards for RTOs, under Item 1 or 2 of the Schedule.

The TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the next step if you want to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to work in an RTO, TAFE or enterprise as a:

  • Trainer and/or assessor
  • Enterprise trainer and/or enterprise assessor
  • Training advisor or training needs analyst

If this is already you, here are some options available for you to upgrade from TAE40110 to TAE40116 with RTO Leadership Institute RTO ID 40682

OPTION 1 – Trainers/Assessors who have the TAE40110 but do NOT have either of the new required units – TAELLN411 or TAEASS502

This option is suitable if:

You already have the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools but do NOT hold TAELLN411 Address Adult language, literacy and numeracy skills and you want to upgrade to the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

OPTION 3 – Trainers/Assessors who have the TAE40110 and TAELLN411 but does not hold  TAEASS502.

This option is suitable if:

You already hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and TAELLN411 Address Adult language, literacy and numeracy skills but you do not hold TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools and you want to upgrade to the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

OPTION 4 – Trainers/Assessors who have the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, including TAELLN411 and TAESS502

UPGRADE

But I hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and the two new core units, TAELLN411 and TAEASS502. What do I need to do to upgrade and why?

Most of the Certificate IV units between the TAE10 Training Package and the new version of the Training Package released in 2016, are equivalent, so where this is the case we are able to issue you Credits for those units to the new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Credits can be issued by providing us with a certified copy of your TAE10 qualification and record of results.

There are two units, however, in the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment that have not been determined as equivalent to the old units. Therefore we are unable to issue credits for these units.

The two units that this applies to are:

  • TAEASS401 Plan assessment activities and processes
  • TAEASS403 Participate in assessment validation

These units require a bit more than a Credit process, so for current trainers and assessors we are offering the upgrade through an RPL process. All we need is some evidence showing your recent planning of assessment activities and evidence of you participating in validation, as well as answering some verbal questions, and we’ll be able to issue you RPL for these units, thereby upgrading you to the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

But I have already done those units, why do I need to do them again?

There is no requirement for you to hold the new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, as long as you hold the two new core units TAEAss502 and TAELLN411. However, many trainers and assessors like to keep their qualifications up to date with the new qualification. In order to be able to issue you with the new TAE40116, we do need to ensure currency of skills and knowledge against the new versions of the units. For this reason, we have developed a streamlined RPL process so you can provide the evidence that you will already have from the work you do.
